Tooth loss can adversely affect your overall confidence. However, there are numerous options available to you when it comes to tooth replacement. One of the more common choices people make when requiring false teeth is to opt for dentures. These prosthetic teeth can play a vital role in both enhancing your overall appearance and improving your dental health. What most people do not realize is that tooth loss does not just affect how you look. It can also affect how you talk, eat and more. Here are some handy tips to make the most out of your dentures.

Ensure that you brush the dentures on a daily basis

Do not make the mistake of assuming that since these are prosthetic teeth they are not prone to staining and the accumulation of tartar! Once you get dentures, you need to take time to brush them just as you would your regular teeth on a daily basis. The process of doing this, though, may differ slightly from your regular dental hygiene regimen. For starters, you should remove the dentures and rinse them off to eliminate any food debris that may have attached themselves to the prosthetic teeth. The next step would be to use a soft-bristled toothbrush that has been moistened in a mild cleaning detergent solution. It should be noted that all bleaching products should be kept away from your dentures as they could adversely damage the material they are composed of. Lastly, if you make use of dental adhesive to keep the dentures in place, ensure you clean out the grooves that lay directly on your gums so as to eliminate any residual adhesive.

Ensure you maintain your oral health

Not having teeth does not automatically mean you are exempt from oral infections and buildup of bacteria. Because of this, it is pertinent to maintain your regular oral routine to prevent the risk of developing throat infections, gum infections, bacterial buildup on your tongue and more. After taking out your dentures, you should thoroughly brush your oral cavities, inside of your cheeks, your tongue and your gums so as to reduce the risk of harbouring harmful bacteria. This not only maintains your oral health, but it also reduces the risk of developing halitosis. Keep in mind that since plaque can also accumulate on the dentures, overlooking this can cause you gum irritation which would also make it difficult for you to keep your dentures on.
